CSC VLEs – Important Security Guidelines
Below are some important points related to basic security hygiene.
The VLEs are advised to read all the below mentioned points carefully:
- Do not disclose sensitive information to co-workers unless necessary.
- Never send personal information (name, account numbers, address, phone numbers, passwords) to strangers.
- Never provide information to someone over the phone/mobile such as:
- a)Password
- b)Or any Sensitive Information
- Do not share passwords. Do not give your password to anyone for any reason or type your password when someone is watching.
- Don’t write down your password. Don’t use the same password on multiple systems.
- Do not send bulk emails through DigiMail.
- Never leave your computer logged on unattended, even for a minute.
- Remember, you are responsible for any activity performed using your user id.
- Do not reply to, or click on links within, emails or popup messages that ask for personal or financial information.
- Do not propagate virus hoaxes or chain mail.
- Do not download software from unknown publisher.
- Do not open email attachments from unknown senders.
- Do not store unwanted information on your computer if you are not authorized to do so.
Generic Activities to ensure Information Security
- Maintain the confidentiality of all data, keeping in mind the privacy of all individuals.
- Create strong password. To make a memorable and secure password use the letters from a phrase/song, add digits, and use upper and lower case letter.
- Change your passwords regularly.
- Always log off system when you are done or are leaving your work area for an extended period of time.
- Anti-virus software should be installed and updated timely.
- Beware of shareware; it may contain a virus.
- Use firewall to protect your computer from Internet intruders.
- Keep deleting temp and cookies frequently
- Dispose of information in a secure manner
- Before leaving check for the following:
- Sensitive material and your laptops are secure
- Drawers, file cabinets and offices are locked
